Indonesia - Flores, Komodo & Lombok
The Indonesian islands of Flores, Komodo and Lombok are just a short hop east of Bali but once there, feel a world away. Discover a tropical paradise on the beautiful beaches of Lombok, trek amogst rice paddies on Flores and cruise the idyllic islands of Komodo National Park, the only place in the world where you can encounter a real dragon. There are frequent flights to these destinations from both Bali and Jakarta and, once there, internal flights to pop from one island to the other are quick and easy. There is a good range of accommodation and transportation on Lombok and liveaboard options abound around Komodo to suit all budgets. Accommodation options on Flores are more limited but English is widely spoken so travelling is easy throughout by bus or private driver. Flores, Komodo and Lombok have two main seasons - the dry season being April through November and the wet season being December through March. Both seasons are suitable for travelling. Average daily temperatures are fairly consistent throughout the year, ranging from 27 °– 29°C. We visited Flores and Komodo in 2014 with our children, aged 10 and 13, and their grandparents aged in their 70s.
